Indian River County Housing / Rental Assistance. A federally funded program of the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) incorporated and administered by Indian River County. The purpose is to provide safe, decent and sanitary housing for low income citizens. Through this program, families and individuals who meet the income eligibility requirements may receive financial assistance to rent privately owned dwellings.
Indian River County Rental Assistance office is now eligible for new Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) and funding authorized by the American Recue Plan Act of 2021.
These EHV vouchers are provided to help assist individuals and families who are (1) homeless, (2) at risk of homelessness, (3) fleeing, or attempting to flee, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or human trafficking, or (4) recently homeless.

The Rental Assistance office will ensure effective communication with persons with disabilities, including those persons with vision, hearing, and other communication-related disabilities. Rental Assistance staff will also take reasonable steps to ensure meaningful access for persons with limited English proficiency (LEP).

If you recently applied for the HCV – Section 8 program, application status information will only be available online at www.waitlistcheck.com. Application status will only show if you are active or inactive. At this time, the wait for housing is 3 to 6 year wait. Do not call the office, we will not be able to give you any information at this time.
The HUD-VASH program combines HUD Housing Choice Voucher rental assistance for homeless veterans with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) at their medical centers.
